Many of our members come to yoga and our Group Centergy classes for the relief of lower back pain. After participating in our classes, it is very common for back pain to subside. This is mainly due to the work on the iliacus and psoas muscles, two muscles that work closely together involving any movement of the lower back and lifting of the legs, and the quadriceps. In our yoga classes, a class can focus on this group of muscles entirely. In our current release of Group Centergy, the entire hip track focuses on releasing, stretching, strengthening the psoas. In the picture below, the iliacus lines the inside of the hip, and the psoas is attached to the lumbar spine, lining the pelvis and attaching to the thigh bone. These muscles are very hard to reach and touch for the relief of pain – so you have work and stretch these muscles to keep them from aching.
