Training your core will give you a HUGE return on your time spent in the club. Your core muscles consist of all abdominal muscles including the rectus abdominus, internal/external obliques, transverse abdominus and the intercostals. The core also includes the muscles associated with the spine such as the erector spinae and the iliopsoas. These muscles keep your spine upright, and are a source of stability in all your daily activities. Your core also protects and holds internal organs in place. Lower back pain? The most prevalent contributor to lower back pain is a weak core. By strengthening the muscles that help support the spine and improve posture, you can dramatically decrease the symptons of lower back pain.
